OFF SEASON ROWING PROGRAMS

While TJ only rows in the spring, other programs offer summer and fall seasons on both the Occoquan and Potomac Rivers. These programs cater to all skill levels and help rowers gain a healthy variety of rowing experiences.

JUNIOR SCULLERS

Sandy Run Scullers has confirmed the dates for the Junior Scullers Summer Sessions. Each session is two weeks long, held Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 10:00 AM - noon. Rowers will learn to scull and have time to improve their technique during the two weeks. The instructor for the sessions is Ignacio Toro, a former TJ Rower who rows at Northwestern and coaches for Sandy Run Scullers and Resilient Rowing. If the offered dates and times do not work for you, please send an email to CoachShariRows@gmail.com to see if we can work out private or semi-private lessons. The link to register for the sculling program is https://forms.gle/k6cSbb19G4RQKpLt8.    Check out the Sandy Run Scullers website which has lots of helpful info on the sport, to include links to videos and articles. www.sandyrunscullers.org

RESILIENT ROWING

The offseason program most TJ Crew members join is Resilient Rowing. Resilient offers a Learn to Row program for prospective novices, a Developmental program we generally recommend to rowers with one season of experience, and a Competitive program for those who want to compete with some of the fastest rowers in northern Virginia.

Resilient rows on the Occoquan.  Because so many TJ students tend to do Resilient Rowing, this program will be the easiest to find carpools for. TJ Crew captains will help set up carpools before each season to ensure everyone who wants to row will have a ride from TJ to the river. The Resilient Rowing website better describes each of its programs and has instructions to register.

OTHER PROGRAMS

Following are links to other offseason programs in northern Virginia. Note that because fewer TJ students tend to join these programs, it may be more difficult to find carpools.
