Carpool Insurance ... with the Practice Bus!
.
Returning rowers who are not signed up to take the practice bus can pay for practice bus insurance at a cost of $50 for the season. The practice bus insurance can be paid via Zelle or check. This insurance will cover days when a returning rower's carpool is not available and they need to get to the river. Please note the practice bus is not available on Tuesdays.
Pre-Season VASRA Prep: Sign Up!
Please sign up here for pre-season prep at the boathouse from VASRA: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0b4aa4aa2ba7f85-vasra12#/
Each school is required to sign up for a morning or afternoon slot on the weekends of 2/18, 2/25, 3/4 and 3/11. Volunteer slots are 9a-12p or 1-4p. This is worth TWO volunteer points for peopel who attend VASRA workdays.
Launch Boat Driver Training
Parents, to volunteer for one of the most fun VASRA regatta positions, the Launch Boat Driver, you must have gone through launch boat driver training. As a Launch Boat Driver, you get to see the regatta up close as you chase the boats with a referee. TJ is hosting our launch boat driver training on Saturday, 2/25 and Saturday, 3/4 at 8 AM. This will be before our rowers' practice. To signup for the training for either date, please email: Peadar Harmon peadarharmon@gmail.com

Updated Regatta Schedule
We have the latest update to the Regatta schedule for this season. The St. Andrews regatta will be hosted on April 8th. This impacts the Spring Break schedule. This means that TJ will not attend a regatta on April 1st and there will not be practice on April 3rd, but practice is required from April 4th - April 7th
and then we will have the St. Andrews regatta on the 8th. St. Andrews is a great day event and is fun for the whole family to attend.
In summary, for Spring Break, rowers will have off April 1 - 3. For those that are planning college visits, FCPS has given us many three-day weekends this year. We encourage you to take full advantage of that before the season starts.
Rowing Gear Special Order
Now is your chance to order a TJ Crew duffel bag, TJ Rowing jacket, and Gore-Tex pants with the hope they arrive in time for the holidays! Please note there is a minimum of 6 jackets ordered for Boathouse to produce them. If the minimum isn’t met, you will be refunded. This may be one of your only chances to order this gear for the season, so act now. These are great for cold weather rowing, especially at the beginning of the Spring season.
The jacket and pants are available (currently marked way down!) through the Boathouse TJ Crew online store. The online store will be open until 10/14. Please refer to the sizing charts or ask a buddy with a jacket to try on to ensure proper sizing as personalized items cannot be returned or exchanged.

We also wanted to give you a heads up that we have limited sizes of the TJ embroidered rowing shorts, tights and tech shirts in the TJ crew store from a previous order. If you plan on buying these items, check the TJ crew store first to see if they have your size and buy them ASAP because the prices on the new order will be significantly higher due to increased cost from the supplier.
We will NOT be stocking these items in the TJ Crew store once they sell out so if you want these items (they are not required, but nice to have), you'll need to order them though the TJ Crew rowing gear special order. Here's the link to the TJ Crew Store that shows the sizes we currently have in stock: https://www.tjcrew.org/store
Please feel free to reach out to our Uniform Chairs with any questions!

What is Crew?
Crew is the sport of rowing. Boats are made of 8 rowers and a coxswain, who steers the boat. It is considered the ultimate team sport.
While many students join crew to increase their college admissions chances, TJ Crew rows because of our love of the sport, the joy of being on the water, our close friends in our boat, and the challenge of doing something hard. TJ Rowers are very organized and enjoy the consistent physical exercise that allows us to refocus our minds to do even better with classes.
We are TJHSST's Crew Team, a community composed of over 100 hard-working student athletes.
Come Row With Us
TJ Crew is in its 31st year and we have both Men’s and Women’s Teams. We have a history of excellence, including the National Champions for Women's Varsity 8 in 1996 and 1999, and Men's Varsity 8 in 2004, 2006, and 2007. Our Men's Novice 8 won the Virginia State Championship this past year, and our Women's Freshmen 8 won the Virginia State Championship the year before.
We have 120 team members, and no prior experience is required. Year round rowing opportunities are available. TJ Crew "Learn to Row" is available in the Fall. Then join us for Winter Training, before the main Spring season starts. Over the summer, University Rowing Camps are available and past TJ Rowers have gone on to row for many top universities. Join us and let's row together.
Congratulations to our seniors -
US Rowing Honors 5 TJ Crew Seniors
Congratulations to our TJ Crew rowers! Seniors Jonathan Buchholz, Emma Cox, and Matthew Kim were selected for the US Rowing Scholastic Honor Roll; Nikhil Vallikat and Anthony Van Rheenen received honorable mention. These rowers were chosen on the basis of their outstanding academics, rowing successes, and responses to a short application. (See US Rowing's announcement for the full list.) We're proud of these rowers, both on and off the water!
We are TJHSST's Crew Team, a community composed of over 100 hard-working student athletes.
Since 1989, we have competed at State, National, and International competitions, winning numerous national medals and international acclaim. Our rowers form the most tight-knit and academically successful athletic community at TJ, with the highest graduating GPA of any sport in 2018. From the class of 2018 alone, our alumni went to row and study at schools including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Princeton University, and Duke University, just to name a few.
