Join TJ Crew
We're excited that you're interested in joining our team! Follow the instructions below to become a member of the most athletically and academically successful community at TJ.
Step 1: Join Slack
Rowers interested in joining the team should send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to receive an invite to Slack. Once they've joined Slack, they will be able to see all the communication to and between team members so far.
Step 2: Attend our Recruiting Events
We host a number of events both at TJ and at our rowing facility (Sandy Run Regional Park in Fairfax Station, VA) where we teach interested novices about the sport of rowing and about our team. Attend one of the events listed here to learn more.
Step 3: Attend Winter Conditioning
From mid-November through early February, our team trains after school at TJ in preparation for the spring season. In fall 2020, winter conditioning will likely start in mid-December. Our coach-led winter conditioning sessions take place from 4 PM to 6:15 PM each weekday. Regular attendance for winter conditioning workouts is essential to success in the spring, and is HIGHLY recommended, especially for novice rowers who have never touched an oar. Learn more about winter conditioning here.
Step 4: Register for the Spring Season
Registration for TJ Crew is currently open! Registration fees are as follows and will not be collected until just before water season.

Step 5: Arrange Transportation
During the spring season, rowers may need to commute from TJ to the river directly after school. We arrange for a bus to take freshmen to the river for each day of practice, while transportation home is typically organized by parents and rowers. The bus is still TBD for the spring 2021 season. Learn more about transportation options here.
Step 6: Dress for Success
All TJ Crew rowers are required to race in TJ Crew Uniforms (or "uni"s for short). Additionally, we have numerous accessories that almost all team members purchase for their own benefit, including TJ Crew duffel bags, TJ Crew jackets, and TJ Crew hats. TJ Crew rowers performance clothing is made available through our online store with Boathouse or from our spirit wear clothing reps - see what's available for sale now.
Step 7: Become a Part of Our Family
During the Spring season, we host events at which novices can become a part of the TJ Crew Community. For example, on the Friday evenings before regattas, we host pasta parties, where a TJ Crew family near the river hosts all of our rowers for a pasta dinner.
