Parent Open House: Coming up August 26
We welcome new and returning parents to attend an open boat house at Sandy Run Boathouse. It will be Saturday, August 26, at 1 PM - 4 PM. This is the boathouse our team practices out of and you will have a chance to see our boats and equipment. You will also meet other parents and have an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the sport of rowing. The address is: Sandy Run Boathouse, Van Thompson Rd, Fairfax Station, VA 22039.
For new parents with students interested in signing up for Fall Rowing, this is a great time to meet other families and organize carpools.
Join TJ Rowing for Fall Rowing (Green Days)
Green Days are Fall Rowing for TJ Crew: And we want you to join us! Green Days are three days a week, every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday after school starting August 28 until November 2. Practice times will be from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM/Sunset. It is a great opportunity to learn to row, and this year we will also be offering Varsity Fall practice, so it's for all rowers: new and returning! Participation is strongly encouraged. Practice is at our Sandy Run Boathouse.
Transportation is not provided, so we need carpools and to figure out who is driving (which helps us figure out carpools for spring). We always need additional drivers to help get our rowers to the river on Green Days. In the Spring, for the full season, there will be a practice bus and more experienced rowers who can drive. In the meantime, thank you to all of the parents who are helping with the driving.
Steps to sign up:
Complete this Google Forms registration.
Submit your payment of $100 for Green Days through Zelle or Venmo to tjcrewtreasurer@gmail.com.
VHSL physicals must be on file with TJ to participate. Turn those forms into the TJHSST Activities Office
New Rowers must sign this Liability Waiver and Swim Test Confirmation and email it to tjcrewpresident@gmail.com.

What is Crew?
Crew is the sport of rowing. Boats are made of 8 rowers and a coxswain, who steers the boat. It is considered the ultimate team sport.
While many students join crew to increase their college admissions chances, TJ Crew rows because of our love of the sport, the joy of being on the water, our close friends in our boat, and the challenge of doing something hard. TJ Rowers are very organized and enjoy the consistent physical exercise that allows us to refocus our minds to do even better with classes.
We are TJHSST's Crew Team, a community composed of over 100 hard-working student athletes.
Come Row With Us
For 2023-2024: TJ Crew is in its 32st year and we have both Men’s and Women’s Teams. We have a history of excellence, including the National Champions for Women's Varsity 8 in 1996 and 1999, and Men's Varsity 8 in 2004, 2006, and 2007. Our Men's Novice 8 won the Virginia State Championship this past year, and our Women's Freshmen 8 won the Virginia State Championship the year before.
We have 120 team members, and no prior experience is required. Year round rowing opportunities are available. TJ Crew "Learn to Row" is available in the Fall. Then join us for Winter Training, before the main Spring season starts. Over the summer, University Rowing Camps are available and past TJ Rowers have gone on to row for many top universities. Join us and let's row together.
Congratulations to our seniors -
US Rowing Honors 5 TJ Crew Seniors
Congratulations to our TJ Crew rowers! Seniors Jonathan Buchholz, Emma Cox, and Matthew Kim were selected for the US Rowing Scholastic Honor Roll; Nikhil Vallikat and Anthony Van Rheenen received honorable mention. These rowers were chosen on the basis of their outstanding academics, rowing successes, and responses to a short application. (See US Rowing's announcement for the full list.) We're proud of these rowers, both on and off the water!
We are TJHSST's Crew Team, a community composed of over 100 hard-working student athletes.
Since 1989, we have competed at State, National, and International competitions, winning numerous national medals and international acclaim. Our rowers form the most tight-knit and academically successful athletic community at TJ, with the highest graduating GPA of any sport in 2018. From the class of 2018 alone, our alumni went to row and study at schools including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Princeton University, and Duke University, just to name a few.
