Regatta Day Info

TJ Crew's home regattas are held at Sandy Run Regional Park. More information on Sandy Run regattas is provided below. For information on away regattas, see Travel, Travel Food, or Directions.

Parking at Sandy Run

Parking at Sandy Run costs $10 per car and is extremely limited. Depending on how early you arrive, you may have to park in a satellite lot and either take a shuttle bus or walk to the main Sandy Run parking lot. Championship regattas are especially large, making parking especially difficult. Please carpool to Sandy Run on regatta days if you can, or use the TJ Crew shuttle bus from Silverbrook Elementary (see below).

Shuttle bus from Silverbrook Elementary School

TJ Crew and South County Crew are again co-sponsoring a free shuttle running from Silverbrook Elementary to the river on regatta days. The shuttle bus departs from Silverbrook Elementary School, 9350 Crosspoint Drive, Fairfax Station, VA 22039 and will provide continuous shuttle service between Silverbrook ES and the destination of Sandy Run Regional Park. Trips will leave Silverbrook ES on the hour and half hour (e.g., 7am and 7:30am) and will return from Sandy Run at quarter after and quarter till each hour (e.g., 7:15am and 7:45am).  There will be 2 round trips per hour. There will be a 30 minute lunch break for the bus driver between 12:00 and 12:30, so no bus at 12 from Silverbrook and no return bus at 12:15 from Sandy Run.  The shuttle bus will start 2 hours before the first scheduled race and end 1 hour after the last race.

The shuttle bus will not run for the first regatta of the season, the Polar Bear Regatta.

Family members and spectators should give themselves some extra time and utilize this free and easy service!

It is a 15 minute shuttle ride to the park, but please plan to arrive at the school at least 1-1/2 to 2 hours before race time to allow ample time to get to the Grandstands at Sandy Run to watch your race.

Access to grandstands

From the upper parking area at Sandy Run, a 0.6 mile walk along a somewhat hilly hiking trail is required to reach the Grandstands. A shuttle bus is available from the upper parking area for a nominal fee that will take you to the Grandstands, should you not wish to walk.

At the grandstands

TJ Crew parents usually sit in the upper left corner (as you face the grandstands) and we'll be wearing our TJ Crew spirit wear. Please join us!

Occoquan regatta food

At home regattas, the TJ Crew Boosters organize a food tent near the boathouse, where rowers can relax and grab lunch or a snack between races. Parents are welcome at the food tent as well!

Each week, your rower (or cox) will be given a food assignment based on his or her seat position for that week's race. Students drop off contributions on their way to the boathouse. Food assignments will be emailed in the week before the regatta and/or posted to the TJ Crew website homepage.
