Ty Otto, a 2007 graduate of TJHSST, stopped by TJ on Thursday, November 21, to help the TJ rowers kick off the 2013-14 winter conditioning season.  Ty Otto and our new Freshmen Coach, Dan Muir, were classmates at TJ and rowed together in the varsity eight that won the SRAA National Championships and Stotesbury Cup and participated in the Royal Henley Regatta two years in a row, in 2006 and 2007.  Ty graduated in 2011 from the University of Washington and continued his studies at the University of Cambridge in the UK.
His rowing career includes being part of the US Rowing team at the 2012 London Olympics, representing Cambridge University in the 2013 Cambridge – Oxford Boat Race, winning gold at the 2011 U23 World Championships, gold at the 2011 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championships, silver at the 2010 U23 World Championships, and many other remarkable results.  Ty Otto is a role model for our rowers and we hope we will have the chance to see him again at winter practice and on the water in the spring.
