President's Corner - October 2012

I want to welcome all returning families back for another exciting year of rowing. I was happy to see that our rowers have been busy this summer with Coach Sieke’s Summer Workout Challenge, local rowing programs, Development camps and now NVRC fall rowing program. We have some very dedicated athletes and it looks to be a very promising year.

I would also like to welcome our prospective rowers and their families. Crew is a wonderful sport that is good for the physical activity and discipline for the rower; it also provides great opportunity for the whole family to get involved. The Boosters not only provides the logistical support for the team, but gives the parents another opportunity to be involved in their child’s school life. Speaking personally, it has been a great way to meet the rowers and parents, with whom you may not have crossed paths otherwise.

There are three reasons that TJ Crew is so successful, one is that the coaching staff is the best in the area and their hard work and commitment has shown through with the winning results that we have had. The second is the rowers whose hard work through the off season shows with results. Finally, the parents, without whom this program would not be able to function as smoothly.

Our Open House on September 22, 2012 at the Sandy Run Boat House was well attended. It was a good opportunity for the interested new rowers and their parents to see the beautiful rowing facility that we are able to call our home and get a chance to try out rowing with some experienced rowers.

There will be a Crew Family Interest night on October 16, 2012 for all interested families. I would encourage all of the existing rower’s and their families to come and share our enthusiasm with the interested parents and prospective rowers and show the support we provide for our children. Also, there is a Boosters Board meeting on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00pm and everyone is welcome.

I look forward to working with all of you to make participation in TJ Crew a great experience for you and your rower.

Go TJ Crew!
