President's Corner - May 2012

posted May 30, 2012, 6:33 PM by TJ Crew Webmaster

It is hard to believe that Crew season is almost over! We have one event left, the picnic, which is always fun to attend. Ever since my son’s freshman year, I have always been amazed at the dedication that is shown by the rowers and coxswains during the season.  All the time spent during winter training and then on the water during the long practices, just for the opportunity to “race“ for maybe a few minutes a week. Sometimes it turns out great, sometimes not so great, but it is always a joy to watch as a parent. Success can be quantified by the number of 1st place medals, but I also think that success can be measured by what you learn on the way. Team work, cooperation and drive are traits that are encouraged on the river, and translate well on land in everyday life.

I would like to thank the Coaches for all of the time and effort that they put in to make TJ Crew a successful program. It is a pleasure to see the passion of the coaches, which is contagious throughout the team.  I also would like to thank the parents who have given their time to help out year-round, either at the river, during regattas or behind the scenes. It is a huge task to equip this team and, without all of the volunteers, none of this would be possible. I look forward to the start of next season and encourage all to get involved.
