President's Corner - March 2013

The season has begun and since daylight savings time is now in effect the team has more valuable time on the water training. Hopefully we will get warmer weather in the next week and it will be a more enjoyable for both the rowers and coaches, but if you ask them, they are just happy to be out on the water.

Since crew is a sport that most of the participants don’t start until high school, it a learning experience for not only the students, but their parents as well. It doesn’t take long to learn the basics and by time your rower has been in his or her second race you too will have the knowledge of a veteran parent. Sitting with the other TJ parents in the grandstands, you will have a sense of being part of the team just as your child does. It is a wonderful way to spend a Saturday in a beautiful and peaceful setting meeting new friends.

I would also like to invite all the parents to attend the Booster Board Meetings, they are held on the second Wednesday of each month in room 106 at TJ. By attending the meetings you will get an understanding what it takes to run the team and get to know the other parents. Getting involved enhances the experience for both you and your child.

In just a few weeks I look forward to seeing all of you at the river for the races. It will be an experience you will always remember. Be sure to wear your TJ Crew spirit wear, so we can all identify one another in the grandstands.
