President's Corner - March 2012

posted Mar 18, 2012, 5:57 AM by TJ Crew Webmaster
We are a few days from the first regatta of the season and I look forward to another exciting season of racing. For parents of rowers that are new to the sport (that was me, two seasons ago) I think you will find it an enjoyable sport to watch and that Sandy Run is one of the best places to view a race. The stands give a great view of the finish line and the scenery is spectacular. You will also have the opportunity to meet other parents from the team.
We had a great turn out for winter training and the mild winter has made getting on the water less of a challenge than it has been in past years. Now that we are in daylight savings time the team has more time on the water and they can hone those important rowing skills. All the long erg hours, sore muscles and blisters will be forgotten as soon as each rower starts their first race and can experience the real joy of competing as a team. Whether they win or lose is not as important as learning to work together as a team.
I would also like to mention that we have not filled all of our volunteer spots for the regattas on the Occoquan. . The last time I looked there were many positions that need to be filled especially the early races. I must remind everyone that if TJ Crew does not fill their required quota for a regatta we will be fined $50 for each position not filled. So if you can help out, please sign up ASAP.
I look forward to seeing you at the river!
