President's Corner - Fall 2011

I want to welcome all returning families back for another exciting year of rowing. I was happy to see that our rowers have been busy this summer with local rowing programs, Development camps and now NVRC fall rowing program. We have some very dedicated athletes and it looks to be a very promising year.

I would also like to welcome our prospective rowers and their families. Crew is a wonderful sport that is good for the physical activity and discipline for the rower; it also provides great opportunity for the whole family to get involved. The Boosters not only provides the logistical support for the team, but gives the parents another opportunity to be involved in their child’s school life. Speaking first hand it has been a great way to meet the other rowers and parents, who you may not have crossed paths with otherwise.

There are three reasons that TJ Crew is so successful, one is that the coaching staff is the best in the area and their hard work and commitment has shown through with the winning results that we have had. The second is the rowers whose hard work through the off season shows with results. Finally, the parents, without whom this program would not be able to function as smoothly.

There will be a Crew Family Interest night on October 19, 2011 for all interested families. I would encourage all of the existing rower’s and their families to come and share our enthusiasm with the interested parents and prospective rowers and show the support we provide for our children. There will also be an open house at Sandy Run Boat House on October 29, 2011 so that new rowers, as well as their parents, can see the boats and possibly go out on the river with some of our rowers so they, too, can experience the beauty of the river. Also, there is a Boosters Board meeting on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00pm and everyone is welcome.

I look forward to working with all of you to make participation in TJ Crew a great experience for you and your rower.

Go TJ Crew!
