Coaches Corner - May 2012

posted May 30, 2012, 8:18 PM by TJ Crew Webmaster

I end this season a little melancholy.  While we are only graduating a small class (we are returning 5 of the rowers from the girls varsity, 7 from the girls second varsity, 7 from the boys varsity, and 6 from the boys second varsity - we do lose 3 excellent coxswains in Claire, Billy, and Alex) this is the first group that has been with me for 3 years since I returned to TJ.  I was hoping for more success on the race course.  I was hoping to engrave TJ on the Rothstein Trophy once more (and we will even though it was not this year).  I was hoping to see Colleen and Erin, who I believe are the first 4 year varsity rowers at TJ, to have more success with TJ this year.   I was hoping for a more successful ending to Eunice's, Autumn's, Billy's, Collin's and DK's rowing careers (my understanding is Claire, Nick and Alex will continue rowing in college).  I hoped to make better use of all the hard work and dedication displayed by our rowers in the fall, through the months of winter workouts, and during the spring.   However it is only a little melancoly because I feel privilaged to coach at TJ and I am proud of the rowers accomplishments and more importantly the effort they put into the rowing.  We will be back stronger, more dedicated, and ready to up-hold the traditions of TJ crew.

With less than 6 months to the start of winter workouts there is not a better time to start preparing.  Row, lift, row, run - if you do not know where to row look to NVRC and TBC for the summer and fall.   If you are not rowing and don't know what workouts to do talk to a coach or look on the web site - I will get a general workout schedule posted.  Work on your weakness - we all enjoy working to our strengths, but that is not the best way to improve.

Finally, in closing, I have to do a shout out to the coaches.  This is an amazing group and I hope everyone appreciates them all - BZ (it is a naval thing) Matt, Ron, Kim, Caitlin, Jeff, Larry, JoAnn, and Alex!

Ready All! Row for TJ crew in 2013!
