The beginning of the school year has been full of excitement for all of TJ Crew! Ms. Muir has graciously sponsored 8th period crew conditioning which has seen a full roster every meeting so far. The team is really taking advantage of the opportunity to get in workouts during the school day. Freshmen and novices who have expressed interest in rowing have also been attending the workouts and have been introduced to the ergs. It’s great to see so much passion for the upcoming spring season and, predominantly, winter training.
Our Open Boathouse in September brought in a multitude of prospective rowers and we were so excited and proud to have the chance to meet most of them. Since Freshman Sports Preview last June, we have been collecting email addresses of interested novices and have been keeping the potential novices informed. We are looking forward to the returning team members and novices come together at the start of Winter Training!
Many of our rowers are participating in fall NVRC. At the Occoquan Challenge last Sunday, the Men’s first 8 (with five TJ rowers) took first and the men’s double (with one TJ rower) set a new course record! The Women’s first 8 (with one TJ Coxswain and two TJ rowers) took first as well, pulling the fastest race in a women’s eight that day! Congratulations to each of NVRC’s boats, most of which hold a few of TJ’s 30+ fall rowers this year, for several incredible rows. We’re looking forward to the Occoquan Chase this Sunday! Go TJ Crew!
