Spring Season

TJ Crew practices after school every day and Saturdays during the spring season (freshman and novice boats practice 4 weekdays per week and Saturdays) on the Occoquan from the Sandy Run Boathouse. On Wednesday and Friday the rowers use the 8th period B block for crew practice and are permitted to leave school early to get to Sandy Run for practice.

Rowers are expected to attend all practices, as the training regimen builds on itself and teammates and boat mates rely on each other to progress. We practice rain or shine, so please bring appropriate clothing.

Bus Transportation from TJ to the Sandy Run Boathouse is available for freshman and other rowers (see Bus Transportation to the River).

Spring Break Practice: Mandatory two-a-day practices will be held throughout spring break.

Note about Spring Break Practices for Freshman rowers: Freshmen rowers are expected to attend these practices. However, the coaches recognize that families may have made travel plans before their children decided to participate in crew. Conflicts should be discussed with their Coach directly and as soon as possible. While attendance at spring break practices may be excused, this is a crucial training time for the season and could impact boat placement, at the sole determination of the coach.

PLEASE NOTE – No transportation is provided for Spring Break training, however, many parents arrange carpools over the spring break two-times-per-day practice schedule. The team makes every effort to facilitate carpools/transportation during this time, but ultimately it is the parents’ responsibility to find transportation to the spring break practices.
