  • President's Corner - March 2013 The season has begun and since daylight savings time is now in effect the team has more valuable time on the water training. Hopefully we will get warmer weather in the next week and it will be a more enjoyable for both the rowers and coaches, but if you ask them, they are just happy to be out on the water.Since crew is a sport that most of the participants don’t start until high school, it a learning experience for not only the students, but their parents as well. It doesn’t take long to learn the basics and by time your rower has been in his or her second race you too will have the knowledge of ...

  • Coaches Corner - March 2013 Kris Korzeniowski is a legend in rowing circles. A multi-medal winning coach of several national teams, we were excited to have him come work with our rowers and coaches this past weekend. Kris spent 4 sessions out on the water with 3 different boats Friday and Saturday. On Friday, he went out with the Men’s Varsity 8, and I’ve been told that Bill didn’t even get through the warm up before Kris was ready to take control of their practice.  He told Bill, “That’s not bad. I have a clear vision of what you’re trying to get them to do” and then asked if he could take over. What followed were drills, or more ...

  • Captains Corner - March 2013 The season is off to a wonderful start! In the past week both the men’s and women’s teams have 2ked with exciting results. It is evident that the hard work from winter training in addition to the first few weeks together on the water has resulted in boatspeed. Lineups are forming as we prepare for regattas. Seat racing and technical work have made up a large portion of practices so far and as seats solidify we are shifting into racing mode! The first race, the Polar Bear regatta, is in just a week! The freshmen and novices are quickly learning the skills required in the boat, and will have their first race April 6th.  Coach Korzeniowski is going ...

  • Ergathon Update TJ Crew's 2013 Ergathon was a great success. The team erged one million meters on Valentine's Day.  Talk about showing some love!Almost $7,500 has been raised from generous donors so far, and donations are still coming in. The top overall fundraiser was Ru Tang.  Joe Downs and James Bollinger led the Men's team with the most funds raised in the flyer campaign.  Lily Wittle and Emily Schneider are the Women's team leaders. We sent each donor a "Thank You" postcard on behalf of the team.  The Ergathon coordinator is happy to let you know who donated on your behalf if you want to send a personal "Thanks" as well.Great job, team!  -- Stuart, Ergathon ...

  • President's Corner - February 2013 This is an exciting time of the year. We have finally started the season.  Winter training is over, the Ergathon was a success and the rowers are on the water.  The coaches are happy to finally get out in the river and see the benefits of the winter workouts. Also there is a large group of new rowers to work with and see how they will contribute to the team. We are very lucky to have a good size freshman and novice turn out which are a great indication of a bright future for TJ Crew. I would like to welcome the parents of the new rowers, you are the bright future of TJ Crew Boosters. With many seniors graduating ...

  • Coaches Corner - February 2013 Ah, February—when we are so excited to be back on the water and no one else understands why.I can understand why people who don’t row cannot understand why we would want to do this. On Tuesday, I mentioned to an administrator at TJ that it was the first day of practice. She said, “But you’re not on the water yet.” Yep, we are. It was 42 degrees outside at the time and raining, but I passed some rowers in the hall who were practically vibrating with excitement for the first day of practice.I wish I had access to that during interest meetings when we are trying to convince potential recruits to give rowing a try ...

  • Captains Corner - February 2013 The team finished out the month of January with some hard final Winter Training workouts in preparation for Mid-Atlantic Erg Sprints on February 2nd. We had some positive results on both the men’s and women’s teams which bodes well for success on the water this year. We also had a successful Ergathon on Valentine’s Day, raising a great deal of money for the team. Now, with the winter over and the river thawed, we are finally back out in boats. The first couple practices are being spent teaching the novices how to row for the first time. After this introductory week, boats will begin splitting off and rowers will compete for the spots they worked for ...
